Reefer and Hazmat System Update
To better serve you we are improving efficiency at our U.S. port facilities with a new terminal operating system. As part of our upgrades, effective Aug. 8, 2016, the requirements for the transport of hazardous cargo from our Port Everglades Terminal will change:
Cargo with an International Maritime Organization (IMO) hazardous classification must be submitted and approved prior to dispatch for intermodal moves, and prior to in-gating for port moves.
IMO documentation should be submitted as far in advance as possible to firstname.lastname@example.org. You will receive confirmation once the IMO paperwork has been processed and cargo is approved for delivery. Upon entry to the port, the placarded IMO classes must match the classes submitted prior to dispatch, or the container will be rejected, potentially leading to additional charges at the port.
In addition, we want to reiterate the following requirements for booking refrigerated and hazardous cargo will apply to shipments leaving Gulfport, Miss., Pennsauken, N.J., Jacksonville, Fla., and Port Everglades:
Multiple hazardous equipment bookings (shipments with more than one container per booking) must contain identical UN numbers.
Multiple refrigerated equipment bookings (shipments with more than one container per booking) must contain the same size equipment and be of the same temperature.
Any shipment changes to the UN number, temperature or size of a refrigerated container will generate a new booking.
Multiple bookings may still move under one bill of lading, and will not impact billing.
