Crowley Ships Circus Tihany From Honduras to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula
(Jacksonville, Fla.; Jan. 29, 2002) – Lions and tigers and bears? No problem. Crowley Liner Services served recently as carrier of choice for Brazilian-based Tihany Circus for shipment of a Siberian Bear, a Chilean Andes Eagle, a tiger, a horse, 10 dogs, 10 cats, three ducks, 39 birds and various other circus equipment from Puerto Cortes, Honduras, to Progreso, Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The shipment included 85 units of standard and specialized equipment, and was accompanied by four trainers from Circus Tihany who looked after the animals during the journey to Progreso aboard Crowley’s vessel Express.
Circus Manager Jaime Lizana selected Crowley for the job after carefully reviewing all of his shipping options.
“Crowley is a reputable company with an extremely professional sales and operations team,” Lizana said. “I could readily tell the difference between Crowley and its competition.”
Crowley worked closely with Circus Tihany to ensure proper documentation and safe transit for the animals and circus equipment.
“Our operations personnel were particularly concerned with providing a suitable environment for the animals,” said Ed Porro, senior operations administrator for Crowley in Miami. “We made sure that plenty of water and shade were available at port and aboard the ship.”
Hungarian Franz Czeisler-Tihany founded Circus Tihany more than 50 years ago. The Circus has extensive experience shipping animals and equipment, and has performed in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The circus will remain in Mexico for several years before moving on to its next location.
