Crowley Recognized as a “Best of the Best” Ocean Carrier in Logistics Management Magazine’s Quest for Quality Reader Survey
Top Carrier Serving Central America and the Caribbean; No. 4 in the World
(Jacksonville, Fla.; Sept. 3, 2003) – Crowley Liner Services was recognized as a Best of the Best ocean carrier in Logistics Management magazine’s 20th anniversary Quest for Quality reader survey, the results of which were published in the magazine’s August edition.
For the second consecutive year, Crowley was rated the top ocean carrier serving Central America and the Caribbean, and was ranked No. 4 in the world, after nearly 3,000 magazine readers, all of whom buy transportation or third-party services, completed the Quest for Quality questionnaire mailed earlier this year. Areas surveyed included on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service, and equipment and operations.
Crowley exceeded the industry average in all five categories and was ranked the No. 1 carrier for on-time performance, value, and equipment and operations serving Central America and the Caribbean.
“Crowley is honored and proud to be recognized by our customers and Logistics Management magazine as being among the world’s leading ocean carriers and the No. 1 carrier serving Central America and the Caribbean,” said Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime Corporation. “This acknowledgment is a reflection of our adherence to a set of core values, our never-ending quest for excellence, and our knowledgeable and dedicated employees, who are willing to go the extra mile for our customers.”
Logistics Management magazine sent the 2003 Quest for Quality questionnaire earlier this year to 14,000 magazine readers who buy transportation or third-party logistics services. Almost 3,000 were completed and returned. Scores were weighted by the value the readers gave to each performance criterion.
On-time performance includes on-time pickup and delivery, consistent and dependable schedules and transit times and equipment availability.
Value includes competitive rates, pricing commensurate with service level, and simplified pricing.
Equipment and operations include equipment availability, condition of equipment, good attention to safety, and low incidence of loss and damage.
Customer service includes prompt claims settlement, ability to trace and expedite shipments, problem resolution and courtesy.
Information technology includes tracing and tracking, electronic data interchange, and Internet and electronic commerce capabilities.
While all of the ocean carriers in the world were eligible for a Quest for Quality Award, only 18 earned an overall score above the industry average and earned enough overall votes to qualify.
