Crowley Names Sweeney as Vice President Safety and Health

(Anchorage, Alaska; March 8, 2007) – As part of its continued focus on safety, Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Alex Sweeney has been named vice president of safety and health. Sweeney will relocate from Seattle to Anchorage and will report to Charlie Nalen, vice president, environmental, safety and quality assurance (ESQA).

In his new position, Sweeney will continue to promote and develop the safety culture of Crowley’s west coast operations including the company’s extensive footprint in the Alaska marine and petroleum services industry.

“Alex has proven his leadership skills within Crowley again and again,” Nalen said. “He is passionate about the company’s operations having participated in many facets and understands the unwavering need for safety in everything we do. This position will allow him to bring his years of experience and safety focus to the forefront and help others within the company to embrace the same safety mindset.”

Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has over 25 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts. In 1995 he was promoted to director of Atlantic operations and in 1999 was relocated to Valdez and promoted to general manager, Valdez services. A year later, he was named vice president of the Valdez operation. He also served as vice president, marine operations. Sweeney is a past recipient of the Thomas Crowley Trophy, Crowley’s highest honor. He earned his undergraduate degree from City University in Seattle and completed his MBA in 1995.
