Crowley Logistics Announces Launch of a New Truck Dispatch and Brokering System
2004-03-11
(JACKSONVILLE, Fla; March 11, 2004) Crowley Logistics today announced the launch of Tom M. Weis Systems (TMW), its truck dispatch and brokering application. TMW will provide a better method for matching loads while improving equipment and power utilization and will allow the companys third party trucking (3PT) operation in Jacksonville, Fla., to develop a more automated and efficient process.
The computerized system replaces a semi-automated process previously used within the 3PT group and provides a foundation for additional functionality including electronic invoicing, imaging and web visibility. While the system is new to the companys stateside operation, it has been in use by the logistics group’s Central American offices since 2003.
The software receives transport orders, provides a mechanism for planning moves and provides functionality for beginning the accounts payable and receivable process.
Crowleys 3PT group hauls freight for customers both associated with, as well as separate from, Crowleys ocean cargo transportation services, and also repositions empty equipment. The group is not limited to the use of Crowley equipment, but can utilize the capacity of any ground carrier to act as a third party broker for domestic ground transportation.
