UPDATE: Guatemala Import Regulation Changes

2012-05-15

Dear Valued Customer,
Effective June 15, 2012, The Guatemalan Government has issued changes to their import regulations and established procedures.  As a result of these changes, delays are occurring in the Customs clearance process and fines of $250 and up are being imposed to the consignee of record on the import documentation.
The fines that are being presented to the Guatemalan consignees are a result of discrepancies between the commercial invoice that is being presented with their documentation and the declaration on the ocean shipping documents being presented to the ocean carriers.
We recommend at this time both shippers and consignees thoroughly understand the implications and minimize discrepancies between the commercial invoices and the ocean bill of lading to avoid delays in cargo clearance and the fines associated with these discrepancies.
