List of Vehicle Shipping Required Documents (Puerto Rico to U.S. Mainland)

List of Required Documents

1. Vehicle Registration and Ownership Title

• Original and a copy of the vehicle’s registration from the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP).
• Title must show no liens or loans.
• If the loan is paid off, include a letter of cancellation from the lender.
• If the vehicle has replaced parts (due to repair or accident), include documentation for each replacement.

2. Driver’s License (Copy)

• Enlarge the copy to about half a sheet of paper for clarity.

3. Notarized Letter of Authorization (Affidavit)

• Must be signed by the vehicle’s owner and a licensed Puerto Rican attorney.
• Should include: year, make/model, VIN, and a waiver of responsibility.
• If someone else is delivering the vehicle, include their driver’s license copy.
• For company-owned vehicles, attach an original corporate resolution letter.

4. Certificate of No Debt from ACAA

• Must be original and issued within 30 days.
• Call (787) 759-8989 or visit www.acaa.pr.gov (formerly www.acaa.gobierno.pr).

5. Internal Revenue Vouchers

• Code 5120 ($11) and code 842 ($2).
• Purchase at a Colecturía (Tax Collector’s Office).
• No digital versions allowed.

6. Pre-Inspection Certificate from P.R. Police

• Issued by the Stolen Vehicles Division of your residential precinct.
• Valid for 5 days only.

7. Certificate of No Traffic Fines (DTOP)

• Forms DTOP-DIS-224 and DTOP-DIS-234.
• Submit with the $11 and $2 vouchers above.
• Valid for 3 days only.
• No digital versions allowed.

8. Pressure Wash and Cleaning Receipt

• Must confirm engine, exterior, chassis, and wheel wells have been cleaned.

9. Fuel Requirement

• No more than ¼ tank of fuel at time of delivery.

10. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

• VIN must be clearly visible on:
  • Dashboard
  • Driver’s side door
  • Hood
  • Trunk
• Replacement parts? Include documentation.

11. Personal Items

• Remove all personal items from the vehicle, including:
  • Umbrellas
  • Visor shades
  • CDs, chargers, etc.

⚠️ All requirements must be met before delivery. Violations may lead to legal consequences under Puerto Rican law.

Before Delivering the Vehicle at Isla Grande Terminal

1. Make a Reservation

• Call 1-800-276-9539 to reserve in advance.
• Be ready to provide:
  • Vehicle make, model, year
  • Current market value
  • Weight and size (cubic feet)
• Port of origin: San Juan, PR
• Destination: Jacksonville, FL or Eddystone, PA
• Social Security Number (SSN) required.
• No SSN? Use your EIN (apply at IRS EIN Assistant).

2. Delivery Times & Location

• Monday–Friday:
  • 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
• Drop-off location: Crowley Car Division

• First-come, first-served. Arrive early to ensure same-day processing.

3. Payment Methods

• Due at time of delivery.
• Accepted:
  • ATH
  • Money Order
  • Manager’s Check
  • Visa / MasterCard / Amex
• Not Accepted: Cash or personal checks.

4. Optional Vehicle Insurance

• $313 = up to $25,000 coverage
• $625 = up to $50,000 coverage
• Zero deductible
• If declined, a Cargo Insurance Opt-Out Form must be signed.
• Without optional coverage, Crowley’s liability is limited to $500 per vehicle, per COGSA and our Bill of Lading terms.

5. Vehicle Inspections Before Shipping

• Conducted by:
  • Puerto Rico Police Department
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • Crowley Officials

6. Customs Inspections

• Not required for shipments to the U.S. mainland.
• Required for shipments to international ports (e.g., U.S. Virgin Islands): U.S. Customs & Border Patrol – International Trade Center
