Revision to Costa Rica FCL/LCL Terminal Handling Charge and Administration Fee
The Costa Rican government recently clarified terms related to their implementation of a Value-Added Tax (VAT) applicable to transportation services. Under the new guidance:
Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge (FCL Customers)
• The earlier announced Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge increase for FCL shipments, effective August 2, 2019 for shipments to Costa Rica, has been reduced from $100 to $45 per container on all ocean containers discharging in country.
Effective August 2, 2019, Crowley will increase its Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge by the amount listed in the table below. This increase will offset Value-Added Taxes being assessed by Costa Rican port authorities on all ocean carriers discharging containers in country.
Destination Handling Charge: Applicable to Costa Rica (LCL Customers) Only
• The Destination handling charge for LCL shipments is increasing for Costa Rica.
Effective August 2, 2019, Crowley Logistics, Inc. and Crowley Caribbean Logisitics, LLC will increase its Destination Handling Charge to Costa Rica by the amount listed in the table below. This increase will offset Value-Added Taxes being assessed by Costa Rican port authorities on all ocean carriers discharging containers in country.
Costa Rica Administrative Fee
• The Costa Rica Administrative Fee that went into effect July 5, 2019, will no longer include a charge for port moves. Additionally, cargo destined for a door location in Limon City will be assessed a $20 per container fee while all other door locations will remain at $100 per container.
Effective July 5, Crowley will implement its previously announced Costa Rica Administrative Fee, (Costa Rica Tax Management Fee). The new government regulation subjects all import shipments moving inland from the port to a final destination in Costa Rica to an added value charge.
This administrative fee is $20.00 per container for all Limon City door moves and $100.00 per container for all other door location moves.
Both the Terminal Handling Charges and Costa Rica Administration Fee will apply to both contract and tariff customers.
