Steve Collar Appointed Vice President, Special Projects

(Weehawken, N.J.; July 3, 2001) – Crowley Maritime Corporation veteran Steve Collar has joined Marine Transport Corporation as vice president, special projects, effective July 1. He is domiciled in Marine Transport’s Weehawken, N.J., headquarters and reports to Jeff Miller, vice president, chartering.

Crowley acquired Marine Transport, a U.S.-based supplier of chemical parcel transportation, refined petroleum transportation, crude oil lightering, and ship management, in February.

Collar, most recently director of special projects for Crowley’s Vessel Management Services subsidiary, will be responsible for helping Marine Transport and its subsidiary companies develop and market Marine Transports fleet renewal and expansion projects, and will commercially manage selected vessels. He will also have a leadership role in the potential rebuilding of Marine Transports product tanker fleet and in the expansion of the companys chemical transportation alliances with its partner, Stolt Nielsen Transportation Group.

Collar joined Crowley in 1977 as an engineering assistant and has held positions of increasing responsibility over his 24-year career. Among other jobs, he has worked on oil barges as a tankerman, managed the operations of Crowleys annual sealifts of oil production modules to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, managed Crowley’s West Coast fleet of ocean-going vessels and Northwest harbor tugs, and managed the companys West Coast oil transport business unit. As director of special projects for Vessel Management Services, Collar worked on the company’s new build programs to ensure the vessels being constructed met customer expectations, and was responsible for chartering them to customers.

Collar completed his undergraduate work at colleges in Seattle and San Diego, and earned a Master in Business Administration degree from the University of Washington.
