Tropical Storm Gonzalo Update #1

As of 0800 EDT, Tropical Storm Gonzalo is located 20 miles ESE of Antigua. The storm is moving west through the Leeward Islands at 10 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. T/S Gonzalo is expected to continue moving through the Leeward Islands this morning and the Virgin Islands late tonight. A gradual turn to the NW is expected over the next 36 hours. After it clears the Caribbean, it will move slowly to the NNW over the open Atlantic, well to the east of the Bahamas. On Thursday, a turn to the NNE is expected. There is no anticipated threat to the Continental United States at this time.

Currently, the National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Watch for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Guadeloupe, St. Barts, St. Maarten, Saba & St. Eustatius, Barbuda, Antigua, Anguilla, St. Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, and Puerto Rico.
