Tropical Storm Emily Operations Update

July 14, 2005 – update

Now a category two hurricane, the center of Emily is about 560 miles Southeast of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds new 100 MPH with higher gusts. Dominican Republic and Haiti governments have issued a tropical storm watch. Emily is moving toward the West-Northwest at about 18 MPH and is expected to continue this motion for the next 24 hours.

Because Emily has no effect on Crowleys Puerto Rico and Caribbean trade lanes at this time, we will discontinue notifications. If the situation changes, more notifications will be distributed. July 13, 2005 – update

Tropical Storm Emily was about 170 miles east of the island of Tobago. Movement is to the west at 20 mph. Initial reports indicate that Emily is weaker than originally forecasted. A band of squalls extending is approaching the island of St. Lucia and could contain wind gusts up to 60 mph. Other heavy squalls south of the center will be moving into Trinidad later this morning, producing wind gusts of 50-60 mph. The latest track takes the storm in a general west to west-northwest motion over the southern and central Caribbean during the next 3 days.

July 12, 2005 update

A hurricane watch is in effect for Barbados, Grenada, the Grenadines, St. Vincent and St. Lucia. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the island of Tabago. As of 2pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Emily was located 530 miles East-Southeast of Barbados and with maximum sustained winds near 50 MPH and higher gusts. Emily has the potential to become a hurricane before reaching the Windward Islands late Wednesday.

Tropical Depression 5 is due to cross the Windward Islands on Thursday. It is located near 10.8N/42.9W or 1,065 nautical miles east of Trinidad, with maximum sustained winds of 30 knots. Currently moving westward at about 12 knots, this system is expected to gain in strength and possibly be a Tropical Storm within 2-3 days.

We will continue to monitor the storm and provide you with pertinent information. Due to the uncertainty of its path, we have not made any changes to our regular schedule at this time.
