2001-04-17

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; April 17, 2001) Crowley Liner Services Latin America is expanding its Gulf Latin America Service (GLAS) April 30 to include Rio Haina in the Dominican Republic and increasing sailing frequency to La Guaria, Venezuela to weekly from fortnightly. Crowley will provide weekly fixed-day sailings between Houston, Mexico, Central America, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

Crowley is the only carrier in the trade offering two weekly sailings between Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Vessels in the GLAS will depart on Mondays from Houston to Altamira, Mexico, then travel on to Veracruz, Mexico; Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Manzanillo, Panama; Cartagena, Colombia; Puerto Cabello and La Guaira, Venezuela, and Rio Haina, Dominican Republic before returning to Houston. Three, 960 TEU capacity container ships are used in the service.

These service enhancements are part of our commitment to maintaining frequent, dependable service, which allow customers to continue planning their cross-trade business, inventory and production activities with confidence, said Rinus Schepen, Crowley Senior Vice President and General Manager, Latin America.

In addition to service reliability, Crowleys intermodal logistics, electronic bill of lading and internet shipment tracking services help ensure complex customer shipments will arrive on time and in good condition, even when they are being shipped to more than one country.

With our electronic infrastructure and the solid network of well-trained Crowley employees at each port facility, we simplify multiple destination shipments of cargoes like chemicals, appliances, industrial machinery and foodstuffs,” said Schepen. “We work hard to make sure each shipment of cargo arrives when it should, how it should, and at the precise location our customers have planned for.”

Crowleys GLAS is operated in conjunction with vessel sharing partners APL, Lykes, Nordana and TMM Lines.
