Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge and Administration Fee
The Costa Rican government recently announced the implementation of a Value-Added Tax (VAT) applicable to cargo transportation services, effective July 1, 2019. To offset increased costs associated with the VAT, Crowley will implement the following adjustments to handling charges at the port and inland service charges applicable to all contract and tariff customers.
Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge
Effective August 2, 2019, Crowley will increase its Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge by the amount listed in the table below. This increase will offset Value-Added Taxes being assessed by Costa Rican port authorities on all ocean carriers discharging containers in country.
Equipment | Direction | Previous Charge | New Charge | Increase |
All Containerized Equipment | Southbound/Inbound | $405 | $505 | $100 |
Costa Rica Administrative Fee
Effective July 5, Crowley will implement its previously announced Costa Rica Administrative Fee, (Costa Rica Tax Management Fee). The new government regulation subjects all import shipments moving inland from the port to a final destination in Costa Rica to an added value charge.
This administrative fee is $20.00 per container for all port moves and $100.00 per container for door moves.
