Nicaragua Export Ozone Treatment Requirement effective October 04, 2026

As of September 1, 2026, the Nicaragua government is requiring all refrigerated containers carrying export meat products to receive an ozone treatment before loading.

The treatment is performed by OIRSA and is now mandatory for all applicable meat export shipments.

To be approved for loading, containers must:

• Complete the required ozone treatment.
• Have a valid OIRSA Ozone Treatment Certificate.
• Be sealed with the official government seal.

Government inspectors will verify the certificate and seal before loading. Containers that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted for export.

To recover the cost of this government-required treatment, Crowley will implement an Ozone Treatment Charge of $350 per container effective October 4, 2026. The surcharge will apply to any container that requires ozone treatment.

Please note that while this requirement currently applies to meat exports from Nicaragua, it may be expanded to other export commodities in the future. If ozone treatment becomes required for additional cargo types, the surcharge will also apply to those shipments.
