Why is Chassis free time and charges being adjusted?
The cost of chassis manufacturing, sourcing and maintenance has increased
Record low availability of chassis throughout the United States and Puerto Rico has created significant supply constraints.
As a customer, can I bring my own chassis to pick up a container at Crowley SJU Terminal?
Yes, this is a great way to eliminate cost if chassis cannot be returned within the free time
If so, are there any requirements for “shipper own” chassis at time of gate in at Crowley SJU Terminal?
The chassis must have a current license plate to enter the terminal
Does Crowley have chassis for sale?
No, Crowley does not have chassis for sale.
When does my free time start and stop?
Free days include day of interchange plus two (2) business days to return equipment without a charge
For example a load that leaves the gate on a Friday
Friday = Day of interchange = free day
Saturday = Free day (not a business day)
Sunday = Free day (not a business day)
Monday = free business day 1
Tuesday = free business day 2, must return by gate close on Tuesday to avoid any charges
Wednesday = Day 1 charge of $15 per day etc.
How does the free time apply over weekends and holidays?
Weekends and Holidays are not business days to be counted against the first 2 free days. Weekends and Holidays are billable days after expiration of free time.
Can I reuse a chassis I just used to deliver a load/empty to the terminal?
Yes, chassis can be reused and the free time will restart on day after interchange
Is the chassis charge the same for a reefer load vs a dry? How about per size?
The charge is the same for all chassis
How will the billing process be? Will this be billable by CCS as well, similar to the container demurrage, once equipment be returned?
The billing will continue to be issued by CCS along with any other detention or demurrage accrued on Crowley equipment if applicable. There is no change to the current process, timing, and information included on the invoice.
