Hurricane Maria Update #10
2017-09-28
We know many of you are concerned about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Conditions are extremely challenging. Here is what we are doing to respond and how you may be able to help.
We have increased our capacity to serve these markets by chartering five additional vessels that will enable life-sustaining and infrastructure restoration supplies to reach Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
As of today, more than 3,000 loads of food, supplies and other cargo are in San Juan, Puerto Rico, awaiting distribution, with another 1,100 loads on vessels at anchor awaiting the opportunity to unload, and more are on the way. We are working closely with Hacienda to facilitate the release of these loads and collaborating with our customers and relief agencies to unload and return empty containers so that we can bring more cargo to the island.
Our U.S. Virgin Islands terminals in St. Thomas and St. Croix are operating normally, but are currently at full capacity with loaded containers of food, water, relief supplies, and other cargo. As is the case in Puerto Rico, we urge our customers who are able to pick up their cargo, to do so as soon as possible to allow space for additional loads coming in. We also need your help expediting the return of empty containers.
Although our facilities in San Juan and the U.S. Virgin Islands are operating normally, communications may still be a challenge. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-276-9539.
