Cargo Movement Resuming in Guatemala as Trucker Strike Nears End

2016-11-04

While various government agencies, industry and trucking representatives continue talks to end the ongoing trucker strike within Guatemala, we are beginning to see some cargo movement into and out of the port of Santo Tomas. While some truck drivers continue their protests throughout the country, southbound cargo deliveries from the port to points within Guatemala and El Salvador are being coordinated, and some loads will begin dispatch as early as this afternoon. Pick-ups for northbound cargo bound for the port in Santo Tomas began last night and are continuing today under police escort for cargo sailing on next Thursday/Friday’s vessel.

As with any strike, the situation continues to be fluid. We will minimize the impact to cargo operations to the best of our ability while maintaining the safety of our employees, equipment and your cargo and will keep you updated with further information and impact as it becomes available.
