Thomas Crowley Trophy Awarded to VMS Vice President Maynard Willms
(Seattle, Wash.; January 25, 1999)—In a presentation during the christening of the tug Leader on Wednesday, January 20, Maynard Willms, vice president of the Crowley subsidiary Vessel Management Services (VMS), was awarded Crowley Maritime Corporations highest honor, the Thomas Crowley Trophy, by Tom Crowley, Jr., Chairman, president and CEO of Crowley Maritime Corporation.
According to Crowley, Willms was selected from a group of employee nominations for the award for his outstanding work in developing vessels in the Crowley fleet, including Crowleys newest cycloidal propulsion tractor tugs, considered among the most advanced in the world. “Maynard has worked under the leadership of all three generations of Crowleys and has been instrumental in the building of Crowleys ocean liner vessels, tugs, and barges,” said Crowley.
Throughout his 38 years of service with Crowley, Willms has been an integral part of the engineering team. Beginning as an engineer aboard Crowley tugs, Willms rose up through the ranks to his present position as vice president of VMS, the Crowley subsidiary charged with building and refurbishing vessels for the Crowley fleet.
The Thomas Crowley Trophy is awarded annually to an employee who displays outstanding performance and whose dedication, leadership, initiative and productivity most clearly reflect those of the companys founder, Thomas Crowley.
