Dennis Derby Appointed Crowley VP & GM Caribbean Islands Service

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; May 8, 2000) Dennis Derby has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of Crowleys Caribbean Islands Service with profit center management responsibilities for the companys liner operations between the U.S. and the Virgin Islands, Eastern Caribbean and Bahamas.

Derby, a 20-year Crowley veteran, will remain domiciled in Jacksonville and report to John Douglass, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Crowley Liner Services ~ Puerto Rico & Caribbean. Derby most recently had served as Vice President and General Manager, Sales & Marketing for the Puerto Rico and Caribbean group.

We are very pleased to have Dennis step into this important position, Douglass said. We believe his sales and marketing expertise will help us to continue to grow our market share and bring even greater customer focus to the service.

Crowleys Caribbean Islands Service consists of weekly fixed-day sailings from Jacksonville and Port Everglades to 18 islands, and from San Juan, Puerto Rico to various locations in the USVI and Eastern Caribbean. In addition, twice-weekly service is offered from Jacksonville and Port Everglades to Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas.

Reporting to Derby are George Collins, Director of Sales, Eastern Caribbean; Eddie Gardner, Director of Sales, Bahamas, and Carlos Bustos, General Manager, Caribbean Islands.

Derby began his career with Crowley in 1980 as Regional Marketing Manager in the Northeast, and over the years, was promoted to positions of increasing responsibility within the sales and marketing group. In 1993, he became Vice President of Sales, and later, Vice President and General Manager, Sales & Marketing, for the entire liner service organization. Late last year, after the liner subsidiary was split into Latin American and Puerto Rico/Caribbean operating units, he was appointed to his previous position.

Derby earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a Masters degree in secondary education from St. Joseph College. He later earned an MBA degree in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
