CROWLEY Logistics Launches One-Stop Transportation Management Center Today

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; Jan. 2, 2001) Crowley Logistics today launched a one-stop transportation management center that will provide end-to-end supply chain transportation services for the companys third party logistics customers. The center, located at the companys operating headquarters in Jacksonville, is being managed by Ron Stalvey, Crowleys Director of Freight Services.

Services offered include freight forwarding, NVOCC ocean transportation, airfreight, customs house brokerage, LCL consolidation and inland third-party transportation.

Combining all of these services under one roof will afford customers the benefits of one-stop shopping for all of their transportation needs, said John Hourihan, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Crowley Logistics. Customers will be able to utilize the entire suite of services, or pieces of the package, depending on their needs.

We are bundling Crowleys core strengths to deliver door-to-door transportation solutions, he said. We have performed this work in separate pieces for years and look forward to executing and promoting our capabilities as a total package.

For most manufacturing companies, supply chain management is not a core competence. Because it is at the core of Crowleys business, the logistics group was formed two years ago to begin providing custom logistics solutions for customers in the United States and Latin America. Services include supply chain management, consulting, third party brokerage, warehouse and in-plant services, transportation and documentation.

When we combine the services provided by Crowley Logistics with those of the transportation management group, we see a host of customer benefits, Hourihan said. In addition to being a full service provider for all transportation and contract logistics needs, we have a unique understanding of the Latin America region in general, including local customs and practices to help solve supply chain challenges there.

Moreover, our integrated approach results in cost and service efficiencies as they relate to reduced shipment cycle time, indirect labor and the like, he said. We can integrate the entire supply chain using technology based solutions and improve customer service and satisfaction through increased supply chain velocity. Also, as a non-asset provider, we have the ability to find customers the best transportation resources available.
