Crowley Honored with Ford’s World Excellence Award
(Jacksonville, Fla.; March 26, 1999) – Crowley American Transport has received Ford Motor Company’s Recognition of Achievement World Excellence Award, recognizing the company as one of its top suppliers in the world for 1998 performance.
The World Excellence Achievement Award is a prestigious annual award honoring Ford production suppliers who have met and exceeded rigorous standards for performance in cost, quality and delivery as measured by the Supplier Improvement Metrics (SIM); commodity-specific metrics are used for non-production suppliers.

Crowley, which achieved Ford’s prestigious Q1 status for quality service in 1998, was presented the World Excellence Award along with 46 other suppliers from seven countries at a dinner held in Dearborn, MI earlier this month. Tom Crowley, Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime Corp., accepted the award on behalf of the company.
Ford recognized Crowley for “efforts during a natural disaster” – specifically for protecting Ford’s vehicles in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Georges and then resuming normal shipments to dealers almost immediately thereafter.
