Crowley Awards Scholarships to California Maritime Academy Students

(Oakland, Calif.; May 19, 2004) – Crowley Maritime Corporation has presented Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to California Maritime Academy students Beth Brindle, from Sausalito, Calif., and Hank Peretti, from Boston, Mass.

Both were selected based on academic success, financial need, and their interest in maritime trades and studies.

Brindle is a second-year Deck License Cadet studying marine transportation and Peretti is a third-year Deck License Cadet.

Crowley began awarding scholarships to students of California Maritime Academy in 1997 with the assistance of the academy’s selection committee, which chooses the scholarship recipients in April of each year. Crowley also provides internships to those recipients who are interested.

Over the years, Crowley Chairman, President and CEO, Tom Crowley Jr., a UW graduate, has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to deserving students at select institutions from Alaska to Puerto Rico in the name of his father, Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who guided the company to extraordinary heights before passing away in 1994.
