Puerto Rico – Potential Strike

2014-06-16

Dear Valued Customer,

During the past several weeks, we have been monitoring the negotiations between the government of Puerto Rico and the government workers unions. Even though there has been progress between some of the central government agencies unions and the Governor’s negotiating team, they have not reached an agreement.

On Friday, June 13th, the Puerto Rico House of Representatives approved a bill to reduce $1.3 billion in benefits (salaries, Christmas bonus, payment of sick days, etc.) of government workers for fiscal year 2014-2015. It is expected that the Governor will sign the bill into law today. The possibility of a general strike has increased and could occur beginning Tuesday, June 17th, for an undetermined period of time.

At this time, we do not anticipate any impact to our operations and plan to operate during normal business hours. We will continue to be vigilant and prepared to take immediate action if we are affected in any way. Any changes or developments will be communicated to you as soon as we are made aware.

If you have any questions please, contact your sales representative or the Customer Care Department at 1-800-276-9539.
