The Alert Class is a general purpose Prevention and Response Tug powered by twin Caterpillar 3612B engines generating the combined 10,192 horsepower driving two Rolls Royce azimuthing thrusters. These tugs are equipped for firefighting, emergency response and oil spill recovery. The vessels have oil spill recovery and storage capabitlity for up to 43,000 gallons of recovered oil. Design features include accommodations for up to 16 personnel, Schuyler fendering, a Markey TDS-40 towing winch, Step Warmfloor heated decking, 2,000 feet of oil recovery boom, and on-deck stowage for two oil spill recovery skiffs.

Crowley innovations incorporated into the design of these tugs include a pilothouse control console arranged for maximum visibility and ease of use.

All Crowley tugs are fully instrumented, with pilothouse-controlled engine rooms, and are equipped with the latest navigational and communications technology.
