Nelly Yunta Promoted to General Manager of Crowley’s Dominican Republic/Haiti Liner Services
(Miami; Feb. 14, 2006) – Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Nelly Yunta has been promoted to general manager of Dominican Republic/Haiti for the company’s liner services group. In her new position, Yunta will be responsible for the coordination of sales, marketing, and operations activities for the Dominican Republic and Haiti; overseeing development of policies and procedures; reviewing operating results; establishing annual revenue and capital and budgets; coordinating and negotiating contractor and service provider agreements and developing business relations. She will remain domiciled in the company’s Miami office and will report to John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager, Latin America services.
“Over the years, Nelly has helped establish relationships and secure new business from some of Crowley’s most important customers today,” Hourihan said. “We look forward to her bringing her years of experience and talents to this new endeavor as we look for better ways to serve our customers and grow this important market segment.”
Yunta was a leader in the organization and supervision of the companys very first apparel services department, which has become a model for the industry. And early in her Crowley career, after a reorganization of the company’s Central America liner operations, Yunta was a key contributor to the consolidation of systems and personnel into one cohesive freight services group.
Yunta joined Crowley in 1988 as a senior coordinator in the Miami traffic department. A month later, she was promoted to supervisor of traffic. In 1989, she was promoted to manager of freight services where she supervised the booking, traffic, documentation and customer service departments. She assumed her present position as regional sales manager in 1998. In 2003, she was awarded the Thomas Crowley Trophy, Crowley Maritime Corporation’s most prestigious award.
Yunta has a degree in business administration from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Replacing Yunta as sales manager for south Florida will be Jose “Pepe” Chirinos. Additionally, Bill Wright, area sales manager, will expand his management responsibilities to envelope Chirinos’ former territories, which included the Gulf, Midwest and north/central Florida. Chris Sloope has been promoted to senior account executive where he will continue to service the north/central Florida territory and will begin managing telesales.
