El Salvador Border Strike- 1/16/14

2014-01-16

Dear Valued Customer,

The borders in El Salvador have been paralyzed since Tuesday, January 14, due to the implementation of an $18 charge for merchandise inspection. As of today, the Government of El Salvador has requested to the Parliament the suspension of the charges for the inspection of merchandise because the truckers refuse to pay the proposed charges.

The strike has affected import and export cargo to El Salvador, as well as cargo that crosses this same route between Panama and Mexico. Traffic is currently not moving at El Poy, between El Salvador and Honduras. Cargo at Anguiatu between El Salvador and Guatemala is moving, however, traffic is slow and the approximate transit time for a container is 8 to 10 hours.

We will keep you posted as more information is released. If you have any questions please, contact your sales representative or the Customer Care Departmentat1-800-276-9539.
