Hurricane Irma Weather Update #4

09/06/2017

Crowley’s Corporate Emergency Management team continues monitoring Hurricane Irma, which remains a major Category 5 hurricane threatening the Caribbean Basin. The hurricane is expected to impact the U.S. Gulf and the southeast Atlantic coasts later this week.

Safety is Crowley’s No. 1 core value, and as such we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of personnel, including our mariners, all of our vessels and your cargo. We are coordinating with our vessels to review their routes and plans to keep them well clear of the storm. Our Crowley team has made appropriate preparations at shore-side facilities to protect the safety of personnel, equipment and cargo.

As expected, we are seeing disruptions with many of our services, including those involving the Leeward Islands, the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, the Caribbean Islands and Central America.

Our St. Thomas, St. Croix, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic offices remain closed until further notice.  Our Port Everglades and Miami offices and warehouse will be closed on Friday, September 8th.

The port of Port Everglades, FL, is open and still operating under U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Condition Whiskey since 0800 EST today. Condition Whiskey indicates that gale force winds are expected in the area within the next 72 hours. It is further projected that the port will close at 1900 EST tomorrow, Thursday, September 7th under Condition Yankee, and will remain closed under Condition Zulu beginning Friday, September 8th at 0800 EST.

Rail operations are also begining to be impacted by the storm.  The FEC rail terminal in Port Everglades, FL will close today at 2000 EST until further notice.  Jacksonville rail operations will in-gate close at 1000 EST tomorrow, and out-gate close at 1700 EST Friday, September 8th.

We will continue to update you as port conditions change and as the trajectory of the storm continues to develop. For the latest information on our sailing schedule, please visit  Crowley.com .
