Textiles and Apparel Continue to Trend Upward, Year-Over-Year

According to a recent report from Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 5.22 billion square meter equivalents in February, up 3.4 percent from January and 19.5 percent from February 2015.
Textile imports totaled 2.85 billion SME, 0.7 percent lower than February but 19.7 percent higher than the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.37 billion SME were up 8.7 percent from January and 19.4 percent from a year earlier. For the year ending in February, imports of textiles and apparel are up 9.4 percent from a year earlier, as textile imports increased 10.1 percent and apparel imports gained 8.5 percent.
