In a recent article, Crowley was featured as a support provider to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), which recently completed the installation of mooring points along the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers in Alaska. Crowley’s support services included the company’s petroleum distribution team helping to identify sites where simple beach improvements could have transportation, economic and environmental benefits. Crowley also originally suggested implementing the concept at the coastal village of Chevak in Southwest Alaska.
In the article, Crowley’s Sharm Setterquist, port captain, in Anchorage, explained the importance of the moors to not only those who work the rivers in Alaska but also their importance to the environment. This mooring system has proved very economical for the COE and has been adopted for many other villages in Alaska looking for improvements.
