Crowley manages the Ocean Rangers program for Alaska’s Department of Environmental Conservation. The program was created in 2006 after voters passed Ballot Measure 2, making Alaska the only state to require U.S. Coast Guard licensed marine engineers or graduates of a marine safety and environmental protection program on board vessels to act as independent observers who monitor state environmental and marine discharge requirements. Ocean Rangers also ensure passengers and crew are protected from improper sanitation, health and safety practices. This is a seasonal position running April through late September. The program is managed by the Commercial Passenger Vessel Environmental Compliance Program, which was created in 2001 to monitor cruise ships in Alaskan waters. *Alaska residents preferred*
